The City Rail Link is a major transport infrastructure project that will extend Auckland’s rail passenger network for the city. The project consists of two running tunnels beneath the city centre, modifications to the existing Britomart Station and the construction of three new underground stations (Aotea, Mt Eden, and Karangahape).
Jasmax in collaboration with Grimshaw are responsible for design of the station environment and urban realm within the multi-disciplinary Principal Technical Advisor (PTA) team.
For a high profile and long-term project such as this one, Jasmax have been a key contributor to an integrated public engagement and information strategy. This has included the creation of industry-leading virtual reality experiences to give the public an opportunity to take virtual walk-throughs of the new station environments at public open days and roadshows.
While far from completion, the CRL project has already received two awards, both ‘Leading’ Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Design ratings by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA), the highest possible achievement in the IS scheme. The awards, granted for the Albert Street and Britomart Central sections of the work, recognise the project’s well prepared management plans, policies and procedures, opportunities for energy reduction and strong stakeholder engagement and Mana Whenua participation.
