This project provides competitive swim facilities (FINA compliant 25m short course competition pool), learn-to-swim, 29m wave pool, hydroslide and a variety of aquatic leisure activities as well as a full gym and childcare.

The resulting building is situated on the road front with a screen of glazing displaying the colour and activity of the pools to passers-by. Car parking and access for large groups is provided at the back of the building, allowing this alluring public presence.

Environmentally sustainable design was a key driver in this project, particularly in regard to alternative sources of heating - the primary energy consumption in pool projects. Water from a geothermal bore is run through a heat-exchange and the water re-injected back to the source without contamination. External landscaping and design focused on surface water control with plant species chosen to filter carpark and roof runoff.

The indoor climate and condensation is controlled through active and passive ventilation techniques, thermal insulation panels, vapour barriers, solar control and sub-floor ducts. The interior is light and open with only a layer of glass between inside and out, while strong acoustic engineering means that the noise inside is surprisingly subdued.
